CAHSPR Mourns the Passing of Jack Boan

The entire CAHSPR community was saddened to learn of the recent passing of one of its founding members, Jack Boan, of Saskatchewan. As noted in the obituary:

His interest in health care economics forged a new network of health economists across the country that became known as the Canadian Health Economics Research Association (CHERA). This organization became the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR) and he continued to attend the annual conference until 2015.

As CAHSPR’s Executive Director, I was privileged to meet Jack on several occasions, including his last in-person attendance at a CAHSPR Annual Scientific Meeting in 2015. He maintained a lively intellect, unfailing good will and a passionate conviction in the values of Medicare. His interest and support for CAHSPR was unmatched. In fact, when Jack moved out of his residence, he made a gift to CAHSPR of his relevant papers and documents which he had kept carefully over many years.

We invite anyone with memories of Jack and his contribution to CAHSPR to send us your comments to share with the CAHSPR community. He would be pleased to know that we remember him and appreciate his substantial contribution.
